The objective of this subject is to provide students with a clear understanding of a range of: computer hardware, operating systems and networks and software applicable to later coursework and professional activities. Topics to be covered include: Introduction to basic computer hardware components and configurations; Computer software -Operating Systems (DOS, WINDOW, MAC, LINUX) an introduction to the Windows and UNIX operating systems; Presentation managers and Viewers, Window systems and graphical user interfaces; word processors, spreadsheets, computer networks and Internet applications, electronic mailing systems. World Wide Web authoring and web page design; multimedia and virtual reality.
