KISW 409 — Gender in Kiswahili Literary Writings

The course will study the various manifestations of gender in Swahili Literary Works. It will explore the similarities and or differences between female and male ways of handling Swahili writings. Of interest also is the Swahili writers‘ project on gender in their writings in relation to the social differences and power relations. This course will look at works of both and female writers, exploring the challenges that confront them due to their social and literary conventions and the overall development of voice through major literary movements of the twentieth century and beyond.
