KISW 417 — Tourism in Swahili Society

This course is designed to give students an insight into the immense impact of tourism on facets of the Swahili society and by implication their language Kiswahili. Specifically it will examine the dual role of tourism on the one hand as a tool for development in the socioeconomic, cultural and linguistic life and on the other hand the social-cultural influences that can threaten the development of Kiswahili as a national, regional or international language in the post-colonial era.
