DANS 311 — Traditional Drumming I

DANS 311 is a pre-requisite of DANS 312. Students are taught to apply the philosophy behind Ghanaian traditional drumming on selected musical ensembles. They are taught the playing of the individual musical instruments in a particular drum ensemble, e.g the bell, the supporting drums and the master drum for a particular dance. Detailed analysis and interpretation of drum rhythm shall also be undertaken. Students will be required to play all of the basic rhythms of a particular musical ensemble at the end of the course.
