AGEX 411 — Theoretical Foundations of Innovation in Development Work

The purpose of this course is to expose students to the theoretical underpinnings of the concept of innovation in Agricultural extension. At the end of the course it is expected that students will appreciate the history and emerging trends of innovation in modern agriculture and the importance of theory in promoting innovation. The concept of innovation; philosophical underpinnings of innovation before, during and after the agricultural revolution; different types and categories of technological innovations; from Technology Transfer to Communication of Innovations, Social Learning, Modernization and Dependency theories; and Emerging theories on innovation.
