AGEX 418 — Use of ICTs in Agriculture

The purpose of this course is to empower students and build their capacity to use and appreciate the essence of ICT in agricultural development. Emphasis shall be laid on the application of internet, radio and telephone for the dissemination of relevant agricultural information. Introduction to ICT; Web-based resources in agriculture; ICT applications for the Agricultural sector; Case studies in the use of ICT in agriculture, particularly in extension services; The skills and practice of broadcasting; Developing radio broadcasting programmes; negotiation with radio stations to include relevant/targeted extension programmes, monitoring and evaluation of radio listeners‘ performance. Practical session: Students will visit radio broadcasting stations to acquire the following; Skills and practice of broadcasting. Developing radio broadcasting programmes, negotiation with radio stations to include relevant/targeted extension programmes, monitoring and evaluation of radio listener‘s performance.
