AGEX 213 — Rural Development and Participatory Methodologies

The course aims at exposing students to the concept of development, and the application of participatory methodologies in development work and applies appropriate participatory approaches during development interventions in communities. The concept of development: Justifications for rural development, Modernization & Under-development, Major features of modernization theory. Indicators of under-development: Perspectives, categories and characteristics of under-development. Basic units of Rural Development efforts: The nature of rural Agricultural Development & Rural Development in Ghana, Theories of participation in development, Dimensions of participation, Participation as a process of organizational development. Approaches in participation: Participatory Rural Appraisal, Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation, Participatory Technology Development, Participatory Learning Approaches.
