Theory: Chemical equilibrium, solubility and solubility product (Ksp), electrochemical series, Redox systems, Oxidation number; Balancing of redox reactions. Systematic inorganic chemistry; Periodic classification of the elements, periodic Tables (groups and periods), Atomic properties and periodic Table, Chemistry of Alkali and Alkali earth metals, halogens and transition elements, Introduction to organic chemistry: Structure of organic molecules, alkanes and cycloalkanes as hydrocarbons, sp3 functional groups. Alkenes:sp2 hybridization, double bond formation, Aromatic functional groups: Introduction to aromaticity. Practicals: Redox titration. Qualitative Analysis: Test for cations (NH4+, Mg2+, Al3+, Pb2+, Zn2+, Mn2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Ag+) and test for anions (SO42-, S2-, SO32- , CO32-, Cl-, NO3-); Selective precipitation of cations and anions; Identification of salts and functional groups. Lucas test for primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols.
