MTEN 304 — Computational Materials Science
Materials Science and Engineering · University of Ghana
(Prerequisite: MTEN 301, FAEN 201, 202) This course explores the basic concepts of computer modeling and simulation in materials science and engineering. Techniques and software for simulation, data analysis and visualization will be taught. Continuum, mesoscale, atomistic and quantum methods will be applied to study fundamental and applied problems in Materials Science and Engineering. Examples in the core courses will be drawn to understand or characterize complex structures and materials, and to complement experimental observations. Introduction to mathematical modeling (DFT, HF, Post-HF, Semi-empirical, & MD methods). Possible Application Software are; CP2K, Quantum Espresso, AIMPRO, Nanohub, ATK, AIREBO potential, LAMMPs & Materials studio. The basic of Unix command language shall be introduced in order to launch some of the softwares.
